Lord, Send Clarence
(Scene 1 — Me)
I know that I am not alone.
But this is how I feel.
In spite of being richly blessed;
This pain, it feels so real.
Now I lean into the wind
as snow swirls all about.
Through night as black as ink
I push back at the doubt.

I know this dark. I know this cold.
I know this fear. This dread so bold.
I know this bridge. I’ve gripped its rail.
I’ve asked before. You did not fail.
I ask again. You know I must.
I ask you for a friend to trust.
A friend to trust, a friend to guide.
A friend with skin and YOU inside.
He needs no wealth. Need not be bright.
She needs no strength but must have light.
Not my light nor man’s light nor starlight nor torch
But your light bringing insight allowing foresight and more.
Lord, send me a Clarence to help me see
How struggles and trials have helped me be
Fit for the place you have in mind
In your living puzzle; your perfect design.
You have a plan. I know this is true.
Your plan includes me and what I’m to do.
Your plan includes others around me to fit.
You’ve already shaped me for my little bit.
That’s why I need Clarence here by my side
As your light and warmth as well as my guide.
You can use Clarence to help me see
I think in time. You…eternity.
You’re not in a hurry. Your work will be done.
Your mission accomplished. Your victory won.
Your puzzle completed. No pieces lost.
I’ll not be forgotten. You’ve counted the cost.
Clarence will show me the price you have paid.
